Trusted protection when it matters most...

PROTECTION. COMFORT. DURABILITY. The reasons why PBI-blended fabrics have been the preferred choice of fire departments around the world.

Since their introduction in 1983, PBI fabrics have created a legacy of proven protection that is trusted and recognised by firefighters across the world. They know that they can tackle extreme situations with confidence that comes from wearing comfortable high performance firefighting gear.

PBI Performance Products has always partnered with premium fire suit and protective apparel manufacturers to provide the ultimate in PPE protection for firefighters, as well as industrial and petrochemical workers.

Today, PBI blended fabrics hold leading market shares in North-America, UK, Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand. PBI Performance Products, Inc. is the sole producer of PBI fiber in the world. Every single strand of PBI fiber is manufactured in our plant in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Our headquarters are located in Charlotte, North Carolina with global sales offices in Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, South Korea, HongKong and Japan.

PBI Performance Products is a wholly owned business of the InterTech Group Inc. located in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The decomposition temperature at which PBI starts to degrade is 700°C, exceeding Meta-Aramids blends, offering superior break-open and thermal protection.

HIGHEST FLAME RESISTANCE

PBI has consistently set new standards in firefighter protection with an enviable track record of innovation in fabric technology for 40 years. The latest chapter in this journey is the arrival of a new lightweight fiber that improves breathability, comfort and movement without compromising protection.

AHEAD THE CURVE

Our lightweight, breathable protective fabrics mitigate the risks of heat stress while delivering outstanding heat and flame resistance.

LIGHTWEIGHT PROTECTION

NO PFOAs

PBI Performance Products, Inc. has never used Perfluorooctanoic acid, also known as PFOA or “C8”, in the manufacture of Polybenzimidazole (PBI). PFOA is not contained in any form of PBI, including textile fibers.

WHY ALL SUITS SHOULD BE GOLD?

HEALTH.

Any dirt or, smoke particle or other harmful contaminants show up easily on brighter fabric, allowing it to be quickly identified and dealt with.

VISIBILITY.

The improved visibility that lighter gear gives firefighters on the incident ground is crucial to their safety.

COMFORT.

Lighter colours reflect heat so in bright and sunny weather a gold suit keeps the wearer cooler and more comfortable.

While gold is PBI’s natural colour, there is good reason why it should be kept in fire suits:
